Description

Hazelnut shells are sourced from local farms and can be reused as an attractive addition to the landscape. They are slow to decompose and can be used to create pathways. They are effective as a soil amendment as they provide aeration & drainage. They offer the following benefits to the landscape when used as a mulch:

  • Moisture retention & weed suppression.
  • Lightweight & compact well
  • Inexpensive & long-lasting (it takes 5-7 years for them to break down)
  • Adds color that contrasts well with green plants.
  • Jagged edges of the shells help deter slugs, snails, and cats.
  • Environmentally friendly as they are renewable, biodegradable & sustainable.

Pro Tips: Note that Hazelnut shells work best on level surfaces, as they are lightweight and can be moved by wind and water.
There may be some visible nuts left in the shells that may temporarily attract birds.
